Book Culture Opening Draws Large Crowd

Book lovers of all ages got a look at the Upper West Side’s latest bookstore, Book Culture on Columbus, at the store’s Grand Opening Party last night.

As revealed in Publisher’s Weekly, John “Rick” MacArthur, publisher of Harper’s magazine, is a minority partner in the new store, which is owned by Chris Doeblin. Launch events for new issues of Harper’s will take place at the store, as well as a number of evenings devoted to discussions and readings with the magazine’s authors.

At last night’s festivities, Mr. Doeblin welcomed visitors, while food and drink was served in the back of the store. Lining up for a rose-petal adorned drink, Westsidewriter heard a woman announcing with delight, that now she “didn’t have to go to Broadway” to buy a book.

As of this writing, the events schedule for the store has not yet been posted, but we’ll be keeping a close eye on the site for updates.
