The Power of Poetry

UWS author Katha Pollitt may be best known as a champion of women’s rights and the talented essayist whose work has appeared in The Nation for more than 20 years, but in today’s edition of The Writer’s Almanac, you can also read Pollitt as a poet! In November Fifth, Riverside Drive, she writes

November, and still
light stuns the big bay windows on West End
Avenue, the park brims over with light like a bowl
and on the river
a sailboat quivers like a white leaf in the wind.

Read the entire poem here.

Pollitt has just published Pro: Reclaiming Abortion Rights, which is reviewed here by Clara Jeffery.
